Find the Best Auto Insurance Comparisons Online

How would you have gone about auto insurance comparisons if you were buying ten years ago?  Depending where you live, you may have been able to walk into an insurance company branch office and speak with an agent who could show you those company’s plans.  Alternatively, you may have seen a commercial on television that showed you a telephone number you could call to speak with a representative.  Twenty years ago, you might have even gone to the yellow pages to find out who in your area might be able to offer what.

In this day and age, such activities seem clearly excessive and less effective than convenient and powerful tools that are available online.  If anything, the opposite problem now exists:  a simple search for sites that do auto insurance comparisons is likely to yield an overabundance of results.

So, how do you strike a balance between finding not enough information to conduct thorough auto insurance comparisons, and finding too much?  The secret is in weeding out the great sites from the mediocre ones when you do your initial searching online.  The following are some tips for success:

Good search terms yield good searches.  Therefore, use phrases that describe exactly what you’re looking for.  Something such as “auto insurance rate quote” and “compare auto insurance” will yield web sites that focus on contrasting plan features from a wide group of companies.

Watch out for special interests.  Make sure that providers and policies shown through search results are not represented through private interests.  Sniff out broker incentives by trying to gain an understanding of whether the comparator site is paid more favorable commissions or fees by certain companies over others.

Read the small print.  Since you will pay a great deal over time, commit to fully understanding coverage and terms.

An Auto Insurance Rating Guide

What is an auto insurance rating, anyway, and why should you care that such a thing exists?   You ought to care because they could be a critical tool in making the second most important automotive decision.  Indeed, the cost of your car, truck or recreational vehicle is the first of your major purchases, but the costs of suffering an accident could end up being just as high.

Just as with any other product or service with unknown future value, customers and critics take the time to provide feedback for future buyers.  These expert opinions and testimonials find their place in the form of ratings.  With the advent of the Internet it is easier than ever to make available such information.    It is easier than ever to find an auto insurance rating online.

While some argue that these ratings aren’t what they’re cracked up to be, given the prevalence of review sites being clandestinely crashed by those with private interests, a conscious approach to finding an honest auto insurance rating may pay you back in spades.

Just think of what you stand to gain by separating wheat from chaff—the ability to see into the future.  With all insurance companies it is important not just to understand what each plan says it covers:  one must also gauge the company’s propensity to make fair, timely payouts on legitimate claims.

And, with respect to auto insurance, there are other considerations, such as customer service in the event that one’s car is too damaged to drive.  For how many days will your insurer cover a car rental, if needed?   How helpful did real people find the insurer to be in an actual situation? The fact that customer service and satisfaction will vary widely among companies is precisely why such ratings add value to customers.

Shopping for Coverage Using a Car Insurance Agency

What is a car insurance agency, and why should you consider using one on your crusade to find the best insurance at the best price?  In short, an agency contains a stable of representatives who are experts on a certain company’s insurance products.  Whereas it is fashionable, in this day and age, to go straight to a comparator service or a broker site, there is something to be said for considering the traditional agency structure.

Unlike in a brokerage situation, where the broker is responsible for understanding dozens of products from multiple insurance providers, an insurance agent with a particular company will understand all of a single company’s plans in-depth.  Whereas the company agent certainly has incentives to sell you a policy from its own car insurance agency, and can’t offer you information about the products of competitors, you can be sure to have all of your questions answered (and to receive the best deals that can be found within a given company) while dealing with an official representative of a line of products.

And, if you choose to buy a policy from an insurer that has local storefront representation in your area, once you make the purchase decision, you might seriously consider buying through the car insurance agency.  Not only will you be supporting the local economy by helping your agent’s bottom line and contributing to his or her quota—by setting yourself up with a real, live person who has back channels through the company, in the event of an accident you might find in your agent a built-in advocate.

So, if you’re skeptical of the online-only model, consider a hybrid approach and look online to find an agent.   Remember, that agents are, by definition, people there to represent your interests and at great companies they certainly do.

Is Women’s Car Insurance Different From Men’s?

Believe it or not, the answer is yes.  Segregating women’s car insurance from men’s might seem like a discriminatory practice, but here are several reasons why and how it serves the former group for this distinction to exist:

Reason #1: The statistics don’t lie:  in certain age groups, men are significantly worse drivers than women.  Yet, the insurance companies care about accident rates and those of men are higher.  What most of us would consider to be stereotypes mentioned in any other context (e.g., “men drive faster cars”) turns out to play a major role in how and why men are riskier drivers.

Reason #2: Insurance companies have incentives to sweeten deals for those who are unlikely to get into accidents.  From their perspective, those who will never need to make an accident claim are extremely attractive because they are as good as free money in the bank.  Women’s car insurance can be priced more cheaply because insurers want to avoid penalizing good drivers for bad driver mistakes, and to draw in as many attractive customers as possible.  Similarly, these companies charge more for customers with the highest risk ratings (that is, customers, such as certain men, whose cars, lifestyles, and cultures cause them to ride dangerously).

Reason #3: Differentiating products for men and women provides the opportunity for insurers to tailor offerings and their corresponding marketing messages.  Think of the famous tagline for the Secret deodorant brand: “strong enough for a man but made for a woman”.  By specifically differentiating a group, a company is making a bold statement directly to the group it has singled out.  By creating car insurance products for women, insurers are sending a message that says “we know you are unique and we recognize you; we are tailoring products to you because you matter”.

Finding Student Auto Insurance

If you are the parent of a teenager, then you know that you already have more than your fair share of problems on your hands. But, once they get their hands on a driver’s license, the trouble really begins. You need to make sure that they are properly insured to protect them, other drivers, and of course your own financial situation, but sometimes finding student auto insurance is not that easy. The real key to getting the best deal on student auto insurance is to make sure your teenager is as trained as possible. The more official driver’s education that they have behind them, the cheaper it will be to insure them.

In addition to that, you really need to put some thought into the car that they will be driving. Just because a car is a mid-size, boring sedan does not mean that it is affordable to insure. There are lists of cars, as they are rated by insurance companies, that will tell you what make and models are insured at a better rate.

You also want to encourage your student to keep his or her grades up. Some insurance companies will give student auto insurance at better rates to kids with good grades. This can sometimes make as much difference as hundred or more dollars per year. For your child’s sake, it is important that they stay on your auto insurance policy for as long as possible, sometimes until they turn 23 years old. Whether they live with you or not, most companies will allow them to stay on your policy. This gives them a very large discount over what they would have to pay if they were out there on their own, and as long as they keep their nose clean, your auto insurance rate should not be affected by their conduct.

Finding Quality Auto Insurance Comparisons

If you watch enough television, then you could probably name a half of a dozen different auto insurance companies, all claiming to offer the best prices. We all know the ads, the logos, and the gimmicks, but which company really does have the best price? The best way to find out is by doing your auto insurance comparisons online and comparing each company, side by side.
When you are doing auto insurance comparisons, it is vital that you compare your situation, rather than just “average” drivers that they may use. Your car, your driving record, and even your credit record are all part of figuring out what your insurance premium will be and that will vary considerably between companies.

Auto insurance comparisons are best done at one time, to avoid numerous hits on your credit record. In most cases, the three credit reporting agencies will not reduce your credit score if you do all of your insurance shopping on the same day. However, if you get quotes on insurance over a longer period of time, your credit score will take a hit.

Also keep in mind that you should do all you can to raise your credit score before you start shopping for auto insurance. Although it does not seem fair, your insurance premium will depend in large part on what your credit report reflects, so try and clear it up to the best of your ability before you start entering your information online.

Although all companies claim to have the best rates, there is only one way to find out, and that is by putting in your own information and putting them to the test. Only then will you find out which company really values you as a customer and which one is just spending all their money on gimmicky advertising.

What Is an Auto Insurance Rating?

You already know that you have your own credit score and it is responsible for a lot of the decisions that are made for you. The interest rate you pay on your mortgage is based on your credit score. Sometimes whether you get a job or not depends on your credit score. But, did you know that the auto insurance rating system also takes it into account? Even if you are paying for your car insurance in cash, in advance, they will still pull your credit and use it to calculate your insurance premium.

It doesn’t seem fair that the prices you pay today are based so much on what you may or may not have done in your personal financial life up to ten years ago, but it is. For that and many other reasons, it is important to keep your credit score clean and up to date. Your auto insurance rating depends on it.

Your auto insurance rating also reflects other personal matters in your life. Your gender, your age, your education, how far you drive to work, and of course your driving record are all important. The type of car, the make, model, and year are all important. In fact, even the color of your car is taken into consideration when you buy your car insurance.

So, keep all of these factors in mind when you are shopping for insurance. It is not all about that one ticket you had three years ago. Your driving record plays only a small part of the calculation. One way to make sure that you are paying the least amount possible is to look online for car insurance quotes at least once a year. You may find that by shopping around, you will find an insurance policy that is better for a smaller amount of money.

What Do You Want from a Car Insurance Agency?

Most people have had their current auto insurance company on average three years or more, and if you are in the same situation, then you owe it to yourself to start shopping right now. When you fail to shop around your quote, you are not getting the best deal that you possibly could. But, before you start shopping, you should think about what you really need from your car insurance agency.

For many people, the most important thing they want from their car insurance agency is the ability to all of the communication online. No one likes to wait on the phone for minutes at a time, and if you can reach your auto insurance company via email or even via online chat, it can be a lot easier for you. However, some people do not like to do business that way and it is understandable.
For them, they may like the convenience of 24 hours a day telephone communication from their car insurance agency. When you are in an accident or need to make a claim, having someone on the other end of the line all the time is important.

You may also want to make sure that your car insurance agency is financially sound. In general, working with the larger car insurance companies is safer because they have a lot of money behind them, but then again, you may also be just a number to them. If you want a personal connection, then a smaller company may be best.

Not every consumer is the same and that is why there are so many choices in insurance companies. But, by shopping online for a quote and evaluating each company individually, you may find a company that works for you and also offers you the best price for your policy.

Affordable Womens Car Insurance

In today’s world, it seems crazy that women would pay a different auto insurance rate than men, but they do. In fact, sometimes finding womens car insurance can be difficult. There are some companies that will price women’s insurance higher than men’s, while in other cases it may be priced lower. The trick is to shop around your quote and find the company that gives you the best price, the most coverage, with the lowest deductible.

Studies show that women are much safer drivers than men, especially at a younger age. The most problematic drivers are, of course, young men. Women are safer than their male counterparts in all age groups. For this reason, your insurance as a woman should be cheaper, but sometimes the problem lies in the car you are driving.

Because womens car insurance is based not only on gender, but health, age, driving record, credit record, and type of vehicle, there are many places where just one mistake could cost you money. If you are driving a car that is prone to being stolen (like many women do), then you will pay the price. If you have no credit record or a low credit score (which women are prone to doing), then you will also pay a high insurance rate.

If you are looking for womens car insurance, either as the head of household or on your own, then the best place to look is online. By doing your car insurance shopping on the internet, it is much easier to compare many different companies to find out which one is best for you. You don’t want to make your decision based entirely on the cost of the insurance, so make sure the company you chooses offers you all the services that you need and expect from a car insurance company.
